Stain-Busting Tips For Carpet

Most flooring stores in Dayton, OH you walk into, do more than just sell flooring. They often also provide flooring-related services such as installation. If they sell carpet, they also generally offer carpet cleaning services. In some cases, it's even the business's big money-maker. So, it stands to reason they don't want people cleaning up their own stains, right?

Well, mostly right. Like many of our competitors, Bockrath Flooring & Rugs offers carpet cleaning services at our Dayton, OH carpet store's location. Unlike our competitors, we prefer our customers only have to call us out for cleanings as part of their plan for proper carpet maintenance, not for avoidable stains.

So, with that in mind, here's how to clean up a couple of the nastier stains you're likely to get on your carpets, so you don't have to call out the pros from a Dayton, OH flooring store to do the job.

Blood

It's easy to freak out when blood gets on your carpets. For starters, there is obviously some sort of emergency already in place for there to be blood in the first place, and secondly, your expensive carpet is getting stained! No worries, just stay calm and act quickly. everything will work out.

Start by mixing cold water and 2 tsp. of grease-fighting dish soap in a spritzer bottle. Gently blot up the blood, while trying not to spread the stain.  Remember, blot, don't scrub, or you will make things worse!Once the excess blood has been blotted, gently spray the stain to loosen it up. Then gently blot the liquid, changing paper towels or towels as they become soiled. Repeat this process until the stain is lifted. It may take some time and patience, but eventually the stain will come out.

Coffee

Got too jittery and knocked your coffee over onto the carpet? While it's pretty terrible, it could be worse! At least it's easy to clean up if you know how! You'll want to start by making the same mixture you use for blood stains, but adding a quarter cup of vinegar and bumping the dish soap up to a tablespoon. After that, it's pretty much the same process of wetting and blotting you'd use for blood stains. Again, patience is the key here.
