In 1925, Vic Bockrath Sr. entered the flooring business, quickly becoming the flooring manager for Rike Kumler Co. by the time he was 21 years old. He began specializing in the field, installing linoleum and carpet and repairing oriental rugs. In 1955, he started his own company, averaging 10 to 15 repairs a week. He taught his sons Vic Jr. and Ed the skills of the trade. Vic and Ed started selling and installing from their home in 1959, and by 1970, Vic Jr. and Ed opened their first storefront at 1924 Brown Street next to the Pine Club.
Known for high-quality carpet and superior workmanship, the business grew, expanding to its present day location on Far Hills Ave. In 1994, Vic Jr.’s son Doug joined the venture, became the store manager, and has since become the owner and president.
Not only are we the premier store to shop for all your flooring needs, we now offer our Rug Studio located right on site. This concept was created in 2015, by Doug who wanted a unique service for his clients that offered creativity to rug purchasing. Rooms are not always standard sizes that programmed or stocked rugs offer. Our rug studio allows clients to choose from any carpet sample in our showroom, at the size and shape that fits their needs. Our sales associates will then customize the fit to the specific room size. Our rug artisans cut and bind to finish the rug for the room. We also offer repair and resizing of existing rugs that clients may bring in for our artisans to remake. We continue to offer a vast array of options when it comes to your flooring needs.
Vic and his wife Mary are now enjoying retirement, while Doug continues to operate the store with the same passion for quality service and products as his father and grandfather. Doug and his wife Erin currently live in Centerville with their three daughters, Reed, Kate, and Perri. What started as a family business has continued to succeed with the same values as its founders nearly 80 years later!
