At Bockrath Flooring & Rugs, we're often asked about the best types of waterproof flooring available nowadays. Since it's such a hot topic with renovating homeowners, our Dayton, Ohio showroom team decided to talk about luxury vinyl flooring (LVF) to point you in the right direction. LVF is one of the hottest flooring options today and BTW it’s waterproof!
WPC Luxury Vinyl Tiles and Planks
When luxury vinyl was first introduced to the market, it was known as luxury vinyl tile or LVT. This was confusing to the market, as not all luxury vinyl is in a tile format (size) it also comes in plank format, known as luxury vinyl plank or LVP. You will also hear terms such as WPC, rigid core and SPC. Both WPC (wood plastic or polymer composite) and SPC (stone plastic composite have a rigid core and what this means to you is “waterproof”.
Today this entire category is becoming known as luxury vinyl flooring or LVF. And oh what a flooring it is! Luxury vinyl is one of the best choices for areas of the home that need protection from spills and liquid mishaps. Not only is it ultra-durable with multiple wear layers, which makes it the perfect choice for homes with children and pets, but it's also manufactured in various look-alike versions. So, if you dig that wood look, but can't handle the steep price tag on exotic species, WPC Luxury Vinyl is exactly what you're looking for even if waterproof flooring is not your main criteria. It’s an added bonus.
If, as an example, your washing machine floods your floor and you don’t discover it right way, with a click together installation, it can be removed; the subfloor dried; then the luxury vinyl can be reinstalled. No need to replace the flooring. Additionally, if you've struggled with an imperfect subfloor before, you'll be happy to know that LVF hides uneven or flawed subfloors.
